We are fast approaching the deadline for all existing company directors to apply for their Director Identification Numbers (DIN).

The deadline to have applied is 30th November 2022.

If you have not applied already, we recommend applying as soon as possible to avoid potential delays due to the increased number of applications as we approach the deadline.
It is a criminal offence if directors do not apply on time and penalties may apply. The maximum penalties for failing to have a Director ID when required to do so, are as follows:
– $13,200 (criminal)
– $1,100,000 (civil)

Please see below information on how to apply for your MyGovID and your Director Identification Number (DIN).

How to apply

The first step for all directors in this process will be to get your MyGovID if you don’t have it setup already. This is a simple 3 step process:

Step 1: Download the MyGovID app

Step 2: Enter your full name, DOB and email address

Step 3: Setup Standard or Strong Identity strength by verifying two Australian identity documents

Full process can be found here: https://www.mygovid.gov.au/set-up

Once you have setup your MyGovID, you can apply for your DIN by following the below steps:
Step 1: Log in to the ABRS portal here with your MyGovID
Step 2: Confirm all your details are correct
Step 3: Provide two pieces of information that the ARBS have on file for you out of the following:

– Superannuation account details
– Bank account details held by the ATO
– Notice of assessment from one of the last five financial years
– Centrelink payment Summary
– Dividends statement
– PAYG payment summary
We recommend applying as soon as possible, as we expect the website to slow down due to increased traffic as the deadline approaches.
If you are having difficulty setting up via the website, you can also apply by calling the ABRS directly at 13 62 50 and selecting option 1.

When you need to apply

All new company directors must now apply and receive your DIN before you can be appointed as a director.

All existing company directors must apply before 30th November 2022 to avoid late application penalties.

For more information please check out the ABRS website: https://www.abrs.gov.au/director-identification-number

We cannot apply for the Director ID on your behalf but please get in contact with us if you have any questions or get into difficulty in setting up.
